چکیده

Objective: The general patient condition, oocyte and embryo condition and clinical outcomes were studied in patients with a morphologically abnormal zona pellucida (ZP). Methods: The general embryo condition was compared between patients with a morphologically abnormal ZP or a normal ZP. The general embryo conditions in the first and subsequent cycles were compared in patients with a morphologically abnormal ZP. Results: Oestradiol (E2) levels were higher in patients with an abnormal ZP than in those with a normal ZP (P<0.05). In the process of promoting ovulation, luteinizing hormone (LH) levels were higher in patients with an abnormal ZP than in those with a normal ZP (P<0.05). The MII rate was significantly lower in patients with a morphologically abnormal ZP than in patients with a normal ZP (P<0.05). After performing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), the 2PN fertilization rate and pregnancy rate were significantly lower in patients with a morphologically abnormal ZP than in those with a normal ZP (P<0.05). The gonadotrophin (Gn) dosage for patients with a morphologically abnormal ZP was significantly higher in the second IVF cycle than in the first cycle. The MII rate, 2PN fertilization rate, and pregnancy rate were also significantly higher in the second cycle than in the first cycle (P<0.05). The perivitelline space was smaller within oocytes with a morphologically abnormal ZP than within those with a normal ZP (P<0.05), but the ZP was thicker than normal (P<0.05). Conclusions: Oocytes with a morphologically abnormal ZP had lower maturity, and ICSI can improve the fertilization rate of these oocytes. The application of a modified scheme improved ovum maturation, the fertilization rate, and the pregnancy outcome.

Fertilization and embryo quality of mature oocytes with specific morphological abnormalities.

OBJECTIVE To investigate fertilization and embryo quality of dysmorphic mature oocytes with specific morphological abnormalities obtained from intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). METHODS The fertilization rate (FR) and embryo quality were compared among 58 dysmorphic and 42 normal form oocytes (control 1) obtained from 35 consecutive ICSI cycles, each of which yielded at least one dysmor...

O-19: Fertilization Rates Are Improved after IVF if The Corona Radiata Is Left Intact in Vitrified-Warmed Human Oocytes

Background: Before human MII oocytes are vitrified they are usually denuded from their cumulus cells. In this study we wanted to investigate the effects of an intact corona radiata on the vitrification and fertilization of human oocytes. Materials and Methods: The study comprised two different parts. In Part 1, 36 MII stage oocytes, from 6 patients, were randomly assigned into a control group, ...

Assessment of Mouse Germinal Vesicle Stage Oocyte Quality by Evaluating the Cumulus Layer, Zona Pellucida, and Perivitelline Space

To improve the outcome of assisted reproductive technology (ART) for patients with ovulation problems, it is necessary to retrieve and select germinal vesicle (GV) stage oocytes with high developmental potential. Oocytes with high developmental potential are characterized by their ability to undergo proper maturation, fertilization, and embryo development. In this study, we analyzed morphologic...

Space Asymmetry Directs Preferential Sperm Entry in the Absence of Polarity in the Mouse Oocyte

Knowledge about the mechanism that establishes embryonic polarity is fundamental in understanding mammalian development. In re-addressing several controversial claims, we recently proposed a model in which mouse embryonic polarity is not specified until the blastocyst stage. Before fertilization, the fully differentiated oocyte has been characterized as "polarized," and we indeed observed that ...

P-25: Role of Oocyte Morphology on ARTOutcome

Background: The cause of fertilization failure in IVF is most often due to the absence of sperm penetration but the reason why fertilization does not occur when intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is applied is not clear. However some intrinsic oocyte problems may also be responsible for fertilization failure. It has been reported that 13% of unfertilized oocytes after IVF show morphologica...
